In the Lab with Gearbox’s Ryan Heaton

Last year when Borderlands 2 hit store shelves it blew away everyone’s expectations. It took everything from the first game and made it better improving gameplay, weapons and story but kept what wasn’t broken that we loved. Lots of DLC has since been released in the forms of campaigns, costumes and a level cap increase, but after the luke warm reception of the past two campaigns, Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage and Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt, fans wanted more in both quality and quantity. Our prayers have been answered in the form of Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep.

A new campaign that plays out like a Dungeons and Dragons session with Tiny Tina as your Dungeon Master, TTADK takes our heroes on a journey that only Tiny Tina could imagine. A slew of fourth wall jokes and insane mission concepts cover the entire crusade as you fight your way through a fantastical land that changes to whatever Tina wants whenever Tina wants. It’s as hilarious as it sounds and really brings the game back the laughs we’ve expected from writer Anthony Burch. But if you think chortles are all the pack has prepared, be warned: The story has also promised to expound on Tina’s fragile state of being and grips with death.

I managed to sit down with lead level designer at Gearbox Ryan Heaton to talk about what’s going on the world of Dragon Keep and what we are to expect from such a ludicrous campaign. Pick it up on Xbox Live, PSN,PC and MAC on June 25th.
