Ghave, Guru of Spores Token Swarm EDH

Preservation edition · October 3, 2026 · Geekenstein Editorial

Historical source: Jake Petersen; publication date unverified. This is a newly written, condensed account of the retained coverage, with original opinions attributed to their writer. It is not a full-text reproduction or a new firsthand review.

The historical coverage

Petersen explicitly described his Ghave build as an army-of-tokens plan with a smaller sacrifice subtheme. He distinguished it from a version built around broken combos. That stated intention matters because the same commander can support very different table experiences.

Creating tokens, increasing their strength and finding another use for them when attacks were unattractive formed the article’s central connection. Its appeal was synergy and board pressure rather than repeated stack-heavy interaction with every opposing play.

The linked full decklist has not been recovered as a verified quantified list. This edition preserves the stated plan without filling that gap. The companion worksheet explains how to distinguish a resource-consuming engine from an infinite loop and how to describe a deck’s intended pace before a multiplayer game.

A present-day reading note

The following is new editorial analysis, separate from the historical writer’s words and play report.

For a learning build, write down the cost and result of each repeated action. Does the sequence consume mana, counters or creatures? Can it repeat without an outside resource? That worksheet helps distinguish a flexible engine from an infinite combo and makes the sequence understandable to the table.
