New replacement guide — October 3, 2026. Geekenstein historically published an advance-screenings guide at this address. The instructions below are newly written and source-checked for this edition. They are not a recovered copy of the original author’s article.
To find a free advance movie screening, start with events near you, follow the listing to the organization issuing passes, and read that event’s admission instructions. Finding a listing, receiving an invitation and obtaining a pass are different steps. None should be treated as a reserved cinema ticket unless the organizer explicitly says so.
1. Find a screening you can actually attend
Search by your city or ZIP code on Advance Screenings. Check the exact cinema, date and start time before following the offer. A screening in a neighboring city may involve a very different journey from your usual theater.
The directory says it does not organize or manage the screenings it lists. Use it to discover an event, then rely on the pass issuer or organizer for its rules. Save that organizer’s event page so you can check it again before leaving home.
2. Set up timely local alerts
Advance Screenings offers email notifications when screenings in your area are added. Its notification page currently describes Facebook-based login; check that the sign-in method suits you before registering.
Choose an inbox you check regularly. If you want faster notice, enable notifications for that inbox in your phone’s email app and send yourself a test email. A useful notification should lead you to the actual message and event details, not merely a count of unread mail. Notification settings depend on your phone and email app.
Keep alerts focused on places you can reach. When a message arrives, first check whether you are free at the listed time; only then start the redemption process. This reduces the chance of reserving a pass you will not use.
3. Redeem the pass with the issuer
For a Gofobo event, the official FAQ says you need an account and can redeem a code after signing in. It describes printing the resulting pass. Follow the actual event instructions, including any requirements about printed or mobile passes, identification and guest limits.
Read the admission quantity carefully. Gofobo explains that an “Admit Two” pass covers you and one guest; an “Admit One” pass covers only you. Do not assume each pass includes a companion.
4. Plan for admission limits
Gofobo states that its passes do not guarantee entry and that screenings are admitted in arrival order. Its general recommendation is to arrive 30 minutes to an hour early. The event’s own instructions take priority, and arriving early still does not guarantee a seat.
Before traveling, check for changes to the date, location or admission arrangements. Decide how much travel time and waiting you are comfortable with, including the possibility of being turned away. Keep an alternative plan for the evening rather than assuming a pass makes the screening certain.
A short checklist before you leave
- Confirm the cinema, date and time on the issuer’s current event page.
- Bring the pass in the format the organizer requests.
- Check how many people the pass admits and any stated age or identification requirements.
- Allow time for the journey and the organizer’s arrival guidance.
- If plans change, use the issuer’s cancellation instructions where provided.
