Historical source: Jake Petersen; publication date unverified. This is a newly written, condensed account of the retained coverage, with original opinions attributed to their writer. It is not a full-text reproduction or a new firsthand review.
The historical coverage
Petersen’s Grixis reanimation article described setting up a graveyard and bringing back large payoffs. Faithless Looting, Izzet Charm and Breaking // Entering were discussed as ways to stock or access that resource, while return effects supplied a different part of the plan.
The attraction was doing something more ambitious than the available mana would normally permit. That ambition also created failure points: a hand could contain targets without setup, setup without recursion, or a plan disrupted by graveyard removal.
The historical article’s play report is attributed to Petersen, not reproduced as a measured current result. A complete quantified list has not been independently reconstructed here. The companion retrospective compares the plan with four other dated archetypes and requires present format legality to be checked before any new adaptation is described as Standard.
A present-day reading note
The following is new editorial analysis, separate from the historical writer’s words and play report.
Audit an opening hand for mana, an enabler and a useful payoff. A hand full of large targets may do nothing without setup. A hand that can fill a graveyard but cannot return anything has the opposite problem. Graveyard removal changes that calculation, so a resilient build needs a plan beyond assuming the first attempt succeeds.
