Historical source: Jake Petersen; February 20, 2013. This is a newly written, condensed account of the retained coverage, with original opinions attributed to their writer. It is not a full-text reproduction or a new firsthand review.
The historical coverage
Petersen’s mono-blue aggro-control discussion linked a damage clock to interaction. Its purpose was not simply to stop every opposing spell; the time gained needed to help a threat finish the game.
This distinction makes the historical deck intelligible as a tempo plan. A counterspell or bounce effect can protect an advantageous turn sequence, while the same effect may accomplish little if the deck presents no pressure. The surrounding board and mana matter as much as the individual answer.
The article belongs to February 2013 and its legal card environment. This edition does not provide an invented complete historical list or describe it as current Standard. The companion reference compares the archetype with reanimation, Humans, enchantment defence and flashback and separates a new testing method from old performance claims.
A present-day reading note
The following is new editorial analysis, separate from the historical writer’s words and play report.
Before spending interaction, identify what damage or board advantage it protects. Returning a blocker can be valuable when it opens a decisive attack; the same effect may be weak when the opponent can replay it without losing ground. Evaluate the whole turn sequence rather than counting how many spells were stopped.
