Innistrad’s Last Stand Part II: Casual/Standard Flashback

Preservation edition · October 3, 2026 · Geekenstein Editorial

Historical source: Jake Petersen; August 10, 2013. This is a newly written, condensed account of the retained coverage, with original opinions attributed to their writer. It is not a full-text reproduction or a new firsthand review.

The historical coverage

Petersen’s flashback article examined a plan in which spells could remain useful after entering the graveyard. That changed the value of selection and discard: an eligible card could offer another use for its specified cost rather than becoming entirely spent.

The plan still depended on timing and mana. Stocking the graveyard did not remove the need to pay the relevant costs, and a collection of expensive second uses could compete for the same limited resources. The article’s deck idea was therefore an engine to sequence rather than a guarantee that every discarded card was playable.

This edition preserves the August 2013 strategy context without inventing missing quantities or claiming present Standard legality. The linked comparison distinguishes spells useful from hand, spells useful from the graveyard and cards that need both uses to justify their slot.

A present-day reading note

The following is new editorial analysis, separate from the historical writer’s words and play report.

List which spells provide value from hand, which provide value from the graveyard and which need both uses to justify their cost. The plan can lose efficiency if too many expensive flashback costs compete in the same turn. Check the mana sources against both halves of the intended sequence.
