Telltale Games’ Poker Night 2 Review

Preservation edition: an attributed synopsis of Jake Petersen’s May 1, 2013 Geekenstein review, recovered from an August 23, 2017 Common Crawl capture. The review assessed the PC version and also listed Xbox 360. Its written argument survives; this edition does not claim a new playtest.

Petersen initially thought Poker Night 2’s unusual cast might be an April Fools joke. Playing it changed his view: he praised the conversation and character interactions as the strongest reason to enjoy this particular poker game.

Characters were the main attraction

The review brought together Brock Samson, Claptrap, Ash Williams and Sam, with GLaDOS as dealer. Petersen valued the writing and how the characters’ personalities carried into their interactions. His positive assessment was aimed especially at readers familiar with one or more of those characters.

He also liked the poker AI, while clearly admitting that he was not an experienced poker player. His descriptions of conservative or impulsive character play were the reviewer’s observations, not an independently measured model of the game’s AI.

Two variants, with different hand-building rules

Petersen described Texas Hold’em as combining two hole cards with five community cards to make a hand. He distinguished Omaha, where a player receives four hole cards and must use exactly two of them with exactly three community cards. The cast and those rules formed his picture of an accessible, varied poker experience.

The article mentioned Team Fortress 2 unlockables and ended with a favorable purchase recommendation. Its price and old purchase advice are omitted here because they do not establish availability or reward access today. No numerical score has been inferred from a rating-image filename.

Current title context, checked October 7, 2026

Skunkape Games’ Steam listing dates Poker Night at the Inventory to March 5, 2026. That is the first game, featuring Max, Strong Bad, Tycho and the Heavy, rather than this Poker Night 2 cast. This preservation edition has not established a Poker Night 2 rerelease or working redemption of its old promotions.
